Thorndown sponsors its vibrant wood paint in this year's Somerset Art Weeks

We are thrilled to see that Thorndown paints is one of the sponsors at this year’s upcoming Somerset Arts Festival.

The Somerset Arts Festival is now the largest visual festival in the country. In its 25th year now, it will be running from 21 September to 6 October and will be hosting a wonderful mix of art exhibitions, talks, films, workshops and installations. This festival has played a pivotal role in the arts community and continues to grow.

At this years event, Glastonbury is taking part by creating a wonderful trail of unique murals throughout the town. This offers artists the chance to share their craft, as well as art enthusiasts the opportunity to meet the artists and buy from them directly.

A big mural has been commissioned to mark the start the trail in the main car park outside the information centre. Jonathan Minshull, a renowned artist who has produced many incredible pieces across the UK and California, was enlisted to create the mural. And, Thorndown has sponsored the wood paint!

Jonathan has worked in a variety of mediums including acrylic and oil paints. However, this was his very first time painting with wood paint. Using marine ply wood as the canvas and a local studio as the base, he got to work creating a mural of the Avalon marshes - a stunning piece celebrating marshes that are so akin with Somerset, as well as the iconic Glastonbury Tor and local wildlife in the background.

After some experimenting with the Thorndown wood paints, he found that “the paints are really good to use and have a real vibrancy in the flesh”. And the proof is in the pudding, what a masterpiece!

We are delighted to see Thorndown paints being used in such a fresh and exciting way. With this mural's great success, Thorndown is now sponsoring another mural on a wall that will be painted by the fabulous artist Faye Suzannah.

Who knew that wood paints could be used to create such wonderfully vibrant murals? Exciting times to come for Thorndown.
